Sunspots Through a Blackened Windscreen is an image-text work that combines speculative fiction with xeroxes, montages and photographs. The dystopic setting of the novel Port City is inspired by the real world location of Portsmouth, England. Juxtaposition of images and text is designed to create a tension between the past of the city and its possible future; whilst, the images can be read metaphorically as showing what the Mark Three scanner sees. The fiction itself shifts between hard-boiled prose and bursts of lyrical expression as the characters' unexpected moments of intense feeling bubble up through the traversal of the city.
